On March 24, 2022, the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State (the “SOS”) finally issued its guidance regarding the completion and filing of the new statement of economic interest form. The form was overhauled by amendments to the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/1, et seq.) in Public Act 102-0664, which took effect on January 1, 2022. P.A. 102-0664 requires the SOS to develop and make publicly available online written guidance relating to the completion and filing of the form. Unfortunately, the guidance posted today does not provide the level of assistance that many public officials and employees were hoping it would. Please see the hyperlink below for access to the SOS guidance. As a reminder, those individuals who are required to submit the statement of economic interest form must do so by May 1, 2022. If you have any questions about the form or P.A. 102-0664, please do not hesitate to contact a Robbins Schwartz attorney.
